The Guardian reported last week that the virus has had a “catastrophic effect on the nutritional health of the UK’s poorest citizens, with as many as one in 10 forced to use food banks, and vast numbers skipping meals and going hungry, according to the government’s food safety watchdog. “The FSA study warned the problem would worsen if incomes continued to shrink as a result of the economic fallout from the pandemic. “The people we spoke to face ongoing or increased food insecurity should disruption continue into the autumn and winter.” It can feel a little helpless at times. But there are things we can all be doing to help. Pay It Forward, it will make a difference. 1.9 million tonnes of food is wasted by the food industry every year in the UK, while 8.4 million people in the UK are struggling to afford to eat -thank you for doing your bit!
